Standardized Extract

A herbal extract processed to contain a guaranteed, consistent amount of its key active compound.

Plants vary batch to batch, so a raw herb can be far stronger or weaker than the last harvest. A standardized extract is concentrated and tested so each dose contains a fixed percentage of the active marker compound.

Standardization is why clinical trials use specific branded extracts: it makes the dose reproducible. When choosing herbal supplements, look for the standardized compound and its percentage on the label.
