Half-Life

The time it takes for the amount of a substance in your body to fall by half.

Half-life tells you how long a compound lingers. A short half-life means it clears quickly and may need more frequent dosing, while a long half-life means it accumulates and lasts longer.

It helps explain timing advice. Caffeine's several-hour half-life is why an afternoon coffee can still disrupt sleep at night.
