Prebiotic

A type of fiber that feeds the beneficial bacteria already living in your gut.

Prebiotics are not bacteria themselves; they are the food your good gut microbes ferment. That fermentation produces short-chain fatty acids that nourish the gut lining.

Inulin and fructooligosaccharides are common prebiotics. Pairing a prebiotic with a probiotic is sometimes called a synbiotic.
